The Mystic (NPC Class)


Mystics are spellcasters that derive their abilities from personal conviction or from distant magical influence. They may be hedge wizards, tribal shaman, village “witches”, or temple acolytes. Mystics tend to be ignorant of magical or divine theory and supplant their magic with theater, ritual or showmanship. Mystics are usually uncertain of the source of their magical capabilities and alternately may feel themselves divinely inspired or drawing upon latent talents. Their capabilities are not focused and draw upon a mishmash of basic magical, natural and clerical traditions.

Modest Lifestyle
Your magical capability provides enough income to live a Modest Lifestyle (see pg 158 of the PHB). In civilized areas, you are consulted by commoners and others unable to afford the more expert services of a sage, cleric or wizard. In rural areas, the local folk see to it that you receive a reasonable living in order to keep in your good graces and receive magical aid when needed.

Spellcasting
You know only a limited number of cantrips and spells. Use the Mystic Spell List (below) to select spells. Once a particular spell is known, it may not be replaced with another when leveling. This represents your limited understanding and connection with magic.

Spell Save DC: 8 + Proficiency Bonus + Charisma modifier
Spell Attack Modifier: Proficiency Bonus + Charisma modifier

2nd Level: Augury, Gentle Repose, Spiritual Weapon, Hold Person, Beast Sense, Alter Self, Spider Climb, Darkness, Enhance Ability
