Resting
The rules for Resting (PHB186) are missing some important elements. The rules below extend and modify the rules as written.
Short Rest
- A Short Rest requires 1 hour of inactivity in which the rester is not subject to magical or mundane attack, the effects of poison or disease, strenuous activity or the like. Being "on watch" is considered inactivity provided the watch does not consist of strenuous activity and is generally sedentary in nature.
- After at least 1 hour of this type of inactivity has occurred, characters can benefit from all game affects that rely on a Short Rest having been completed.
- Should someone rest for more than 1 hour, they still only gain the benefit of a single Short Rest.
- A particular individual can only benefit from 2 Short Rests between the hours of Sunrise and Sunset. At sunset, all characters lose the ability to take Short Rests until they complete a Long Rest (see below).
- Short Rests can be taken back to back if for some reason a character wishes to regain some ability that refreshes upon a Short Rest, use that ability and then take a second Short Rest to reclaim the ability a second time.
Long Rest
- See PHB 186 for Long Rest rules. Any previous house rules are no longer applicable
